In the match Japan - United States, the USA captain Bob Samuelson should be ejected at the end of game 4 for arguing with officials. That meant an extra point to Japan with the score 14-13. The referees did not notice that and the game continued. United States won the match 3-1: 15-8, 11-15, 10-15, 17-16, 14-16. On 27th of July the Japanese coach launched a protest - the last game was annuled and the score of the 4th was awarded 15-13 to Japan.
